Journey from Africa poster

Under the direction of David Garber, and accompanied by Remi Do on piano, Edmonton Metropolitan Chorus is proud to present a 2011 cultural heritage offering – the 3rd in a series of annual concerts honouring vibrant musical traditions of peoples of African heritage.

Concert Highlights include: Haitian songs telling of survival, grief & appeals to the spirits via simple beautiful music; joyful melodies from Brasil evoking the character of Latin American folk dance; Cuban songs, sassy & rich in rhythms, expressing the culmination of a triumphant return to the roots of black nationhood; and rich harmonies of African-American spirituals (musical calls to hope in dark times following forced migrations from homelands).

Join the chorus & drummers in a celebration of music that fosters the triumphant spirit living through troubled times.
