The Power Trio - Tongue, Throat & Solar Plexus

I think we can all agree that shame and a lack of confidence stop many people from singing and pursuing their creative delights.

I think it’s also important to note that whenever we work with the voice we are working directly and not so directly with the deeply rooted issues of shame and lack of confidence.

When the power trio - tongue, throat and solar plexus are aligned we are connected to our right to speak and sing.

When the power trio is not aligned we are in our deeply rooted shame and lack of confidence which can feel quite normal.

When we share our truth we need the connection to this power trio so that the Queen Archetype of the throat can speak on our own behalf.

The Queens job of being direct and clear in our communication along with having a balance of power is a skill to be sure.

When the tongue is connected to our core power then the voice and the words flow out in a natural way inspiring us to sing, write, dance and express ourselves in ways that connect us to ourselves as well as to others.

So just what is happening inside of us when we get tongue-tied and we can’t speak to what we need or want?

Just why is it that the tongue goes numb?

The tongue goes numb from an excess of fight or flight (sympathetic) energy flooding the system over and over creating

*First of all it’s good to know that the tongue is reflecting a deeper rooted issue inside of our power centre.

*This deeper rooted issue is a lack of confidence and shame around sharing our feelings and our truth.

*It’s also good to know that our power centre is reflecting our feelings as well as the beliefs we hold about ourselves. (Powerless vs powerful)

*Then it’s even better to know that we don’t need to figure all of this out!!

If we stay the course in working with our power system via the tongue with voice exercises the deeply rooted feelings of shame and lack of confidence slowly and surely let go.

This is the great work of undoing and letting go which involves waking up the tongue, head, lips, jaw, solar plexus, diaphragm, ribs, belly, in fact the whole body.

This work of letting go with the help of voice exercises begins trickling and sometimes pouring throughout the body as the work of waking up these inner connections starts to affect us.

*The power centre starts to soften.

*The tongue slowly learns how to move and articulate which makes the jaw take a supportive role instead of the leading role that it’s been in.

*The nervous system makes a movement from being stuck in the fight, flight or freeze sympathetic nervous system into the para-sympathetic nervous system which is where we can really soften, take the foot off of the gas and cruise along a little.

*The tongue goes numb from an excess of fight or flight (sympathetic) energy flooding the system, over and over creating this shame.

I know this is a mouthful. Sorry had to throw that in.

Undoing the grip in us from having a numb tongue and being tongue tied takes some work.

But I’ve got you covered.

There are these amazing exercises that do this work so you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

What’s the result of this work?

*One whole voice without any breaks or interruptions.

*A voice that’s connected to calmness, resonance and emotion as well as to passion and purpose.

*A voice that’s free and beautiful.

What is the downside of this work? I’m so glad you asked.

You have to feel what’s kept you stuck in the fight or flight or freeze and as you undo and untwist the stuck energy in the body there will be feelings that will come up in you.

The great thing is that you don’t have to do that either, the feelings appear and then move through you. Just keep singing...opening and spreading your beautiful wings.
