The Deep End

We start together in shyness. Class has just started and we are not quite sure how to be with each other. We are attempting to hide our vulnerable parts. This will change, all we need is a few drops of the medicine.

I say to the group that we don’t need to look at each other at this point as there is too much personal energy present that is looking for validation. I say to just look forward beyond each other to find your own space.

The resonance begins, and we start to feel more rooted, present, harmonized, comforted by the voices around us.

The singers begin to sense a shift as eyes soften, hands unclench and we start to drop into the deep end of the pool. The worries of the living day fall away to the gentle drops of vibration that begin to calm and still us all.

Singing into these kind of calm waters frees up so much space in the mind and the body for the voice to find all kinds of space to resonate inside of. When this space opens the voice lets go of any working or pushing for space and relaxes into it, thoughts vanish and only waves of beautiful sound are present. And, healing sound I might add.

As each singer tests out their own voice in front of us all we get a birds eye view into their wholeness. It is a snapshot of their inner world and oh so precious.

The others singers open and want to be heard as the personal energies in us all are starting to be taken care of by a greater energy - the impersonal. I’m not the teacher in this but the guide.

It is a welcome relief to not be the teacher and be the guide. I am being taught right along side them.

We are learning to let go to the innocent life force that is rising and falling inside of us as we attempt not to control it.

Halfway into class we find that the guards have fallen away and we can be with each other. We feel a protection that is personal as well as a being-ness that is impersonal. It just is.

As voices find more space the sound stream in each voice pours into the surrounding space and now we are in the deep end of the ocean and not the pool. Hallelujah.
