The Path of the Heart

A student asked me the other day if everyone can sing. She asked me this question hot on the heels of me saying to her, as I always say cuz it’s true, there’s nothing wrong with your voice.

I say you have an instrument that you don’t know how to use and so your voice is not being supported and held within you.

The analogy I gave to a student yesterday was, you have a Lamborghini, a beautiful dam car that you don’t know how to drive yet!

Our body is our instrument.

Imagine a flue with holes or a cello with a body that resonates and echos out what’s been said, sung or struck.

She said, is it always an issue with the instrument body and not the voice itself?

She looked at me like everyone does, with me holding their world in the palm of my hands.

I gently move into this arena with them to help them bring compassion to themselves, for how things are, for what we’ve all experienced and held in our nervous system. All of this life that impacted our body instrument in one way or another.

Singers and those who wish to sing and have their voice through and through, I mean really have it, love it, own it, feel it and offer it, care about these things.

They are listening.

The short answer is yes everyone can sing, unless there’s something physically wrong with the voice.

The long answer is long, but I’m all ears, ask me.

What I know is that in order for the natural beauty and flow of who you are to flow through the voice we need to find a fine balance within us that take care of it all.

The medicine inside your voice knows the ways of balance. It has the intelligence software of light and dark built into it.

This is the path of the heart.
